Torii Dining Table
Torii. A gateway of a Japanese Shinto shrine with two uprights and two crosspieces
Inspired by the arched Torii god-gates of the japanese Shinto temples, it was designed to make the most out of modest dining-rooms.
With the legs set wide apart this bold and modern extendable dining table measures at 100x80cm for good leg space all around. Twin-frame sliding mechanism allows the table to be pulled out for an additonal 40cm exposing an extension leaf stored within the inner frame.
The Black Walnut top is constructed to appear to be floating. It is further embellished with a fine Birch stringing accent running along its perimeter and the extending leaf. Both the main and the extending surface are cut from the same material ensuring continuous uninterrupted grain.
Great care is taken when constructing the top so it may appear as if was cut from a single board. A process factories cannot match.
